A Message to Teachers from Dr. Avis Glaze
The Avis Glaze Education Letters are designed to engage and inspire teachers, and to validate and affirm their work during these times of increased expectations for educational quality and accountability. They will encourage teachers to find joy within the work itself, keep their optimism alive, and continue their quest for excellence and equity as they educate the nation's children. More importantly, teachers will be constantly encouraged to return to their roots and to recapture the reasons they entered teaching in the first place when they need sustenance and motivation.
These Letters will engage and challenge readers. They will provide leading edge strategies to support teachers in their work and to help them to continue to hone their skills in a true spirit of professionalism.
These Letters will describe research-informed practices that are being used in most countries today, provide evidence on what works and describe innovative instructional practices, particularly those that are successful in challenging circumstances. They will propose innovative solutions to seemingly intractable problems.
They will offer a solid rationale for the decisions we make each day in schools, drill down to what's at stake for children and youth, and those who educate them. In some issues, the writer will discuss implications for teaching and learning and make recommendations which teachers can incorporate into their practice.
More importantly, the letters will solidify that common bond that teachers have wherever they work. It will remind them of why they chose teaching and the need to persist in spite of the challenges. These Letters will nurture our indomitable spirit and unrelenting sense of mission and purpose. More importantly, they will provide inspiration to pursue our work with confidence and enthusiasm.
Thank you
Dr. Avis Glaze
